Open letter to Senate

To all Senators that voted for censure,

I stand and accuse you of treason against the ideals and Constitutional foundations of our nation. Today, you voted to, as Sen. John Cornyn so eloquently put it, “Let’s take sides. General Petraeus or MoveOn.org”.

I ask you to take sides again, do you or do you not believe in the Constitution? Because our first amendment protects the freedom of speech, and our right to speak dissent without fear of reprimand. Senators, what have you done today to protect that shining ideal?

Nothing. Not a damn thing. Senate now thinks it’s their place and business to censure acts of political free speech and dissent simply because they disagree with the view. Today every senator that voted for this censure violated their oath to uphold the values of our constitution.

This is not a nation where unpopular or controversial statements garnish the attention of the United States Senate. This is not a nation where one should risk reprimand for articulating a challenge against the status quo.

It is a terrible and cowardly act to put forward an amendment to a bill that demands senators have an opinion on political speech. If this is a precedent that we want to put forward, and I argue that no American voter would willingly vote against the first amendment, why haven’t every and all voices of potential offense been censured? Where is the censure for Steven Colbert or John Stewart? Where are the censures for the 9/11 Truth Movement? I ask, where are the censures for Bill O’Reilly and Ann Coulter?

Simply put, there are no censures because Senate has no business doling them out. This isn’t about Move On, this isn’t about a liberalized agenda. This has nothing to do with General Petraeus. But this has everything to do with how Americans live their lives, and each and every one of you seventy five senators voted against America.

I say your actions today were an act of Treason against the American people, their constitution, and way of life. Shame on you all. The timber of our political discourse has now changed, and not for the better. Americans are watching, and you will all be up for re-election. Perhaps when someone more in touch with America is in office we can put our country back on track. Because it is obvious that none of you current Senators are capable of being public servants or stewards of the people.

These are the Spineless Democrats You Elected

by alec on September 20, 2007 |   Trackback URI   |     Email This Post Email This Post   |   21 Views

Today, the Senate voted for a measure to censure the MoveOn.org General Betray Us ad in the New York Times, 72-25. So much for winning the majority, right Democrats? A year later, we’re still knee-deep in this piece of shit war and the most legislation that can get passed is for censoring a group for FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Anyway, you have these 21 Democrats to thank for this wonderful waste of time:

Baucus (D-MT)
Bayh (D-IN)
Cardin (D-MD)
Carper (D-DE)
Casey (D-PA)
Conrad (D-ND)
Dorgan (D-ND)
Feinstein (D-CA)
Johnson (D-SD)
Klobuchar (D-MN)
Kohl (D-WI)
Landrieu (D-LA)
Leahy (D-VT)
Lincoln (D-AR)
McCaskill (D-MO)
Mikulski (D-MD)
Nelson (D-FL)
Nelson (D-NE)
Pryor (D-AR)
Salazar (D-CO)
Tester (D-MT)
Webb (D-VA)

Because 2 out of 11 isn’t bad, right?

If you ever wonder about Fox News editorial objectivity, look no further than today’s politics page on the Fox News website, pictured below:

fox Because 2 out of 11 isnt bad, right?

Of the 11 stories, I counted 4 negative stories on Democrats (Did the New York Times’ MoveOn deal break the law?, Feds to indict Norman Hsu in $60 scheme for donations to Democrats – this was also the front page story entitled ‘Dirty Dem’, Bad Medicine – Mitt Romney slams Hilary Clinton’s health care plan, Hilary Wants to Change Our Country). Compare this to the 2 negative Republican articles (one of which is actually just a video of minority leader Boehner refuting Democratic charges for 3 minutes) and the two positive Republican stories (Safe at Home? on Bush urging Congress for permanent expansion of electronic surveillance and the article on the Republican primary in Florida, Romney slamming Hilary’s health plan).

So, to recap on the Fox News politics page: 4 negative stories on Democrats, 0 positive stories on Democrats, 3 positive stories on Republicans, and 1.5 negative stories on Republicans.

My Rep Keeps It Real

In an interview with Tikkun, a California-based Jewish magazine, Moran said the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is “the most powerful lobby and has pushed [the Iraq] war from the beginning. I don’t think they represent the mainstream of American Jewish thinking at all, but because they are so well organized, and their members are extraordinarily powerful — most of them are quite wealthy — they have been able to exert power.” [...]

“The problem with addressing the groups who have argued strongly in favor of a long-term American military presence in the Middle East is that they raise arguments that are not related to the point,” Moran said. “I would like to have a reasonable, objective discussion about AIPAC’s foreign policy agenda. But it’s difficult to do that because any time you question their motives, you are accused of being anti-Semitic.”

Jim Moran, Democratic representative from Virginia

And of course, don’t forget the response: anti-semite! Jew hater! Holocaust denier! Nazi!

Because of course, when you disagree with Israel or it’s agents in Washington, you’re an anti-semite.
