Update: GoogleAds still has not replied to my inquiries and I do not know what is happening as of 1 PM on Thursday the 8th.
I did however come across this interesting morsel in a recent Washington Post online chat:
Fayetteville, N.C.: What can you say about the click-fraud lawsuit against Google by AIT announced fairly recently? If Google is required to combat click fraud, how much will it hurt revenue?
David A. Vise: Click fraud is a major problem for Google. It does not address this problem to the satisfaction of its ad customers. Click fraud results when people click away on those text-box ads to dry up a competitor’s ad budget, or to boost revenue on a web site that affiliates with Google, accepts its ads and share revenue. Legally, there are a number of click fraud cases in the courts and they remain to be adjudicated. If Google is required to aggressively combat click fraud, I do not konw how much it will hurt revenue. I do know that Google attacks this problem mostly with technical solutions rather than people, and guards information about this area. There is an entire chapter in The Google Story called “Trick Clicks” about this issue. Google’s chief financial officer once called click fraud the single biggest threat to Google’s business model.
