Scary place these United States are right now. I woke up this morning to a glaring headline across all my computer screens and TV.
“President Bush Declares Martial Law”
Because of the bombings in London, and the widespread international manhunt has led the United States to Close its borders, and has labeled these days as “A Dire Emergency”. President Bush has followed this up with invoking National Security Presidential Directive No. 51 to suspend any and all future elections. Mr. Bush has claimed that overwhelming evidence proves that terror attacks are used specifically to target the outcomes of elections. Mr. Bush is trying hard to prevent the same from happening in the United States during a global investigation. He was heard stating the following:
“It don’t say it specifically. It’s spread through all the language, those that are in power and alive retain their power, and are granted special ability to restructure government quickly and outside of normal channels. This is a terrible time we live in and it takes unterrible actions to save us all.”
But it gets stranger. Much stranger. CNN doesn’t even properly cover the story. In a special morning edition of The Situation Room Mr. Blitzer is spending more time talking about what this means to Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama, than any constitutional damage. FOX News is gleefully feasting on the carcasses of the now stalled Democratic Party sweep. MSNBC spent the morning commenting on Bush’s tie color. Cindy Sheehan was quoted on TV, and Al Sharpton got in a sound bite.
No one though, batted an eye at the perpetuation of the President’s authority. Even Howard Dean delivered a lion’s yawn of protest being quoted saying;
“Directive what?, Oh, that one. Yeah. I guess he’s going to be around for a while.”
Everyone has been complacent. Larry King is still interviewing Justin Timberlake tonight to talk about his impact and influence in modern rock music. The GAP has a special running now on “patriotic clothes” where 20% of every sale is funneled into a trust fund for Iraqi schools. Thus we still care without spilling our Starbucks. The evil empire is here, and it is us. It’s not the evil of oppression or totalitarianism. It’s the evil of complacency, of the insidious nature of laziness.
Tomorrow President Bush will promote Rudy Guiliani to the official position as Mayor of America, likening the appointed position to that of the Office of President. Again, no one will notice. Bush will vacation in Crawford with his Dad, and dear Rudy will keep the conspiracies alive. Ron Paul supporters might have blinked. We’ve all fallen to be the entertained spectators of America. We only watch the country we live in. Not even the seizure of government can shake the people.
As long as my water runs, my heat is on, the internet flows, and I don’t have to leave my couch/computer chair/car…
Who needs Big Brother when no one acts on their thoughts? Who needs a homogeneous society when everyone is complacent? We are all already under the spell of a self-referential society that prefers commentary to original work. Bush taking power was only a dream that I had, but sometimes you never know. They don’t write political corruption thrillers for Hollywood anymore. The news agencies have that realm of fiction locked up.
This mad dark world our country has become is no one’s fault, it’s been the natural progression of a population that prefers the politics of Survivor to the ones shown on CSPAN. When the news covers Brittany Spear’s haircut more than the Vice-President, you know it’s already too late.
It won’t be long anymore. It’s creeping up behind us all, and we know it’s there. That dark shape of static government. It’s coming, and it will continue to come. It just better not interrupt the season finale of 24.

I love humor like this. I especially love the part where it is claimed that a Presidential Directive is declaring martial law, and then when I read the directive, there is nothing in it about martial law. There is plenty in the directive about maintaining a Constitutional government.
cute eh? someone actually read the source on a blog….;)
Read it again, neocon monkey. The presidential directive says quite clearly that the president has the “option” to take full control of the government and essentially eliminate the power of any other branch of the government, including congress and the courts. The trick is understanding the flowery language used.
