Yet another reason to seek more affordable solutions than the very expensive 4-year institutions. Community colleges rock, but I think they are possibly too good of a deal.
If we’ll search for more affordable solutions for the same than it would be extremely expensive institutional training and programs. These are great but systems doesn’t allow for that.
Students take on the debt willingly, knowing full well the terms . Nothing so explicitly voluntary deserves a subtitle with “slavery” in it.
I’m glad the government strictly enforces repayment; My taxes pay for enough stuff I hate without adding student loan defaults. Granted, schools are predatory, degrees are overhyped, and collections is shady, but that’s business. If students don’t like it, they shouldn’t buy into it.

Students take it on willingly because there isn’t any other option. It’s either take out a crappy loan or stay stupid and work for minimum wage. The loan companies also mislead students, giving them false estimates on monthly repayment amounts and conditions.

Gee why are all the doctors and engineers foreign-born? That must be our sure-fire way to continue technological dominance – by removing any incentive to get an education. You’re right, why would the government want to subsidize an education for it’s brightest citizens? Or to put it in your terms, I guess I can “go Galt” on the fry-cooker at McD’s.

Have a major in a field which has the earnings potential to repay the loan in a reasonable amount of time, say 10 years. Also, the government should not hand out loans for worthless degrees with no earnings potential save working in Starbucks.

Good graphics and explanation of the Student Loan Scam…hmm…Scheme. Creditors look at College Students as fresh meat. Often taking advantage of them. We see college grads that have defaulted on their student loans and credit cards they received while in college.

Advisers don’t want to say anything… their salaries and pay raises come from the inflated tuition which, as the article says, is allowed by the government because students then have to take out more loans.
