I am still slowly getting my permanant life together. I purchased a bed and a fairly large table for my personal space which is still not ready. This will explain why there has been a bit of a backlog for mail since I dont really have the surface area to organize myself. I´ll give a general shoutout to everyone who sent Christmas wishes to me I received your mail and will get back atcha´.
If you haven´t been checking (shame on you) there are newish pictures on my flickr account for your enjoyment! Just to save you and me the time, I am indeed kissing a very dead, fried fish in one of the photos (try and contain your jealousy). Once I get my hands on a stove and gas tank here i will let you all know how many variations one can make with the options of tortilla, beans, and rice.
Thank you all for your support and comments, you truly make my backwater campo experience seem like a little bit of America…. and Belgium. Adios.

Hey Lu,
Thanks for the update. You are definitely learning the meaning of “one day at a time”. You have quite a challenge; even to write a letter. We take so much for granted and I thank you; through your efforts, to remind me of this fact. Hang in there mi hijo and I look forward to hearing about your work with the environment. I am learning a great deal already. On another note, as your mom I am not ashamed to admit that I was quite jealous of the fish. I enjoyed talking to your host mom the other day. I appreciate the fact that she is looking out for you. I did find much comfort in that. I hope I thanked her enough.
I love you so very much,
Mommy
XXXOOO
GREAT PHOTOS, NICE FISH AND HAPPY YOU ARE GETTING YOUR PLACE TOGETHER. ONCE YOU GET THE GARDEN GOING, ALL WILL BE FINE. SO, PLANT YOUR OWN GARDEN AND DECORATE YOUR OWN SOUL. BE HAPPY, BE SAFE AND BE HEALTHY. LATER-POPS
Lucian:
Love the updates, you should throw up a link to your Flickr account so I don’t have to dig through your old posts to find it!

PS. Are you a Menshevik or a Bolshevik? Address this in your new post.
Love the new pics….especially the christmas tree and palm tree together. That is almost the weather we have had here lately. I went to richmond to see Jilly on saturday and it was 77 degrees. We had on flip flops and t shirts! I’m glad you are close to having everything established. Nice to read your updates! I hope your hoildays were great! You were greatly missed!
muahaha BELGIUM!
thanks for the shout out!
i was recently “handed down” a phone card from my dad and stepm mom so I will be calling as soon as I figure out how to use the thing, and also establish how long i can call Nica on it since it varies from country to country…
I also just need to get a photo printed out and then your letter will be on its way. I asked my dad to do it but then he printed out a big one and it won’t fit in the envelope (so now I get to keep it - w00t) so I have to go and do it myself. This means I will actually have to leave the house?! whaaaat?
Anyways, I miss you. ENough said!
Nadine…in Belgium…hopefully soon South Africa before back to the USA in May.
ps.
LOVE the D.A.R.E t-shirt.
it’s so inspirational Lu.
Ooooh a bed — you are living the highlife now buddy. Good luck fending off the wildlife!
By the way, I may be coming through Latin America in the late Spring……..
Hey Kid,
So, I’m guessin’ ya don’t want me to send you a cookbook involving the three ingredients you know so well?! hahaha.
Just thought I would check in. All is okay in Lex town. Windy here… a bit too much for the kite thang, and it has gotten cold, actually I should say the temps have reached their norm for this time of year. I still have my hopes up that the groundhog does not see his shadow due to the push of the pretty weather causing the true winter - cloudy weather to be overcast on that weather telling day in feb.
I read in our local paper where another young fellow is off to the peace corps. he was a double major …. the one was spanish. ha!
love ya … yep… to the moon and back!
hey lu… i signed up today to get my shots for our visit… i am so excited!!! (not for the shots) but to see YOU!!! i think about it all the time… yeah!!! hope everything is going ok… i know you are getting excited to get busy!!! less than two months until we come… we should start a countdown!!!
So I finally figured this all out and got off my lazy @$$ and sent a note- sorry I’m so late! I love your pictures, you are indeed a fine photographer! No te olvides de sacar muchas fotos. I also like the way you seem to attract all the muchachas lindas! I see nothing has changed in that respect! I hope you are enjoying su comida porque la pescado no leo bueno. Tiene ganas de comer comida de Nicaragua? Necissito va, tengo mucho trabajo que hacer. Escribe mas otra dia! You are awesome! I am so proud of you!
Hey kid,
it’s sunday, last weekend of the month of january. Time goes so quickly, it seems, so your days there shall be shorter then you think.
All is well here. Just having a quiet moment with a cup of joe [flavored]. Dogs are in the other room. Usually I’m on the dog sofa with coffee cup in one hand, a dog on my lap, and the other two dogs at my feet in tummy rub positions. ha!
Mom and dad are doing well. Maggie went to see dr. in h’burg and he gave her pats on the back for taking her meds. Just a little more shaking in her hands - sometimes, but he said she’s doing great.
We’ve had a mixture of weather, from one extreme to the other. Spent two weekends building a nice 6 x 6 deck platform thing with a roof for the dogs to hang out in. Abi was using it the other night when it was sleeting.
k, just wanted to let ya know we were thinking about you. oh, kim [childhood friend] told me that her girls are coming in next weekend from jmu and tech to visit with a friend of theirs thats going into the peace corps.
love ya!
Hola - que pasa. Hope all is well. Erin, Ed and I just finished Sunday dinner and Erin taught me how to post on your blog. I am at times technically inadequate. Happy New Year - and be careful where you put your boots!
