Peace Corps Rundown

When August comes around, I suppose I’ll be leaving for Nicaragua. Due to massive deforestation I will be serving as an Environmental Education Promoter. I’ll do my best to let you all know what the deal is down there, but I’ll probably forget to post. Alec will be angry. Either way, please post questions as they come to you and I will do the same with answers as they come to me. Posting questions will help preserve my sanity since it would be interesting to discuss international environmental issues with someone, and thereby have something else to occupy my mind. Have a nice day.

Understanding The Mind To Achieve Peace

Lucian: looks like you’re going to be doing some interesting work my friend. You should consider keeping a ‘travel blog’ so to speak on your experiences with pictures, etc.

On the topic of Nicaragua, one of my fondest experiences at JMU was a course on human rights. One day, we had two organic farmers (read: hippies) talk to us about the School of Assassins and it’s use in Latin America. Very interesting how America still gets away with supporting covert rightist action in our little hemisphere.

I’m excited for you and know that you will do something wonderful down there. I am also impressed with you creative writing techniques. I’m forwarding your info to Erin.

  • Mom

I look forward to your next entry. Let me know how you did with the packing. Were you the big winner? Take care and be safe. All my love – Mom

  • Dad

Here’s to the best to you bud. We’re thinking of you and happy that you are beginning your new adventure.
I am OK. I’m fine. I have adjusted. Be safe and happy. All my love, Dad

  • Lisa aka Lee lee

Wow, can’t believe you are off on this great adventure. We are so very proud of you! Let us know if you need anything!!!! We are here for you and love you very very much!! You are the BEST Luciano!! Grandma is staying with me the week after Labor Day so we will read your Blog and I will have her post a message to you. Good luck, be safe and have fun!!!!

  • Leigh-Ann

Ahhh, Luciano!!!! Cannot believe that you are off on this great adventure — so wonderful and not something I imagined you would do back in the day of “The Posse” — though I thought of you doing so many awesome things with your life. It’s hard to be a servant of others — which is what this experience will be — you are a very gifted and talented young man with much to share and give to the world. So many people will benefit from your participation in their lives — people who could never have known you any other way but through this journey you are taking. Stay well, boil the water, and in the dark night when you are nearly crazed from boredom, remember to recite all those “Godfather” scenes you drove me nuts with in class (I’m sending Guido to be with you so he can help you out)!!! Fondly, Ms. Rucker

PS — The kids in class now want to know if you have to use an outhouse — what can I say, they are like you in sooooo many ways!!!!!

hey lu. i felt so priviledged to be able to take you to georgetown. i had such a wonderful time with you and a great dinner. it took all i had to leave you… i am so proud of you and i miss you already. but you are on to bigger and better things… you are going to make so many lives more richer just by knowing you. and it is ok to have bad days or even a bad week… i get homesick and i live two hours away… keep your head up and stay focused on the big picture. see you in a few months… cant wait love you love you love you

I have so many thoughts swirling in my head. [this is not to say that there is extra room up there ] You may choose to read this in bits and pieces.

After reading what others have written thus far, there are a few things which you must see that echoes within the submitted text of your blog –- You are very much loved by all those you have touched… by blood, by brotherhood and by the way your being radiates a pure light. I see the respect they hold for you, not only because of the mission you have chosen, but for the soul you are with each breath you take… and release. What a precious gift you are, you shall teach many lessons.
Jill is right, it doesn’t matter the distance one is away from the place/people we call “home” that longing for home is the gift we carry in our being. A mark on our heart because of the love we have been given from the ones we love and hold dear. How sad for those without such a gift.
You have a goal, You will be focused, and You Must Enjoy Yourself along the way. Many of us shall live this venture through your eyes. Always remember – You can do anything you set your mind to, your heart will get you where you need to be. Your gut feeling will keep you safe, your mind will keep your wit’s about you, and your sunscreen will keep safe from Jillian. Please be aware of your surrounding….at all times. This will keep you safe and help you remember pieces of the venture in the future. It sounds silly now, but when you are older ….you will be glad you took the time to stop and really take in what is around you. Alec is right, keep a travel journal. Write what you see, what someone said that touched you or made you laugh, and sketch things in there too. I still have my books from film life in Gettysburg and Ca. You will enjoy reading through yours as time passes. TAKE CARE OF YOU! Love ya to the moon and back!

oh hey I like this Blog thing !!! ughhh what does blog mean??????

  • Cuz Sher

    Hello Kid;

Just thought I would check in. Your father was here today.

Autumn is approaching with speed. Where the day was beautiful with the warmth of the sun, the approach of winter was screaming as I picked up acorns from the yard after the past storm. Thanks to Moms help, it was a quick chore. Dad sat on his new “porch” in the woods reading. I think Maggie took a little nap.

Soon there will be the smell of the neighbor’s wood stove in the air; I love that smell.

Oh, guess what Gene taught me to do yesterday… operate dad’s dozer. What a hoot! I could feel Papa right there with us. Man, there’s a lot to remember with those things. The skid loader is easier. I shall master this dozer, and have her move with ease. You’ll be very proud of me.

I understand you are with your “host” family. I am sure they are on their way to falling for you. Let us know what the rhythm of their house hold is like. So tell me, is a sense of humor the like from country to country. Meaning – is there a “dry” sense of humor, and wit… I do wonder if it’s the same type of comedic timing. If they speak English as a second language, do they think to themselves in their given language?

What foods do you like so far, what’s the desserts like there. Do they have coffee in the mornings like we do?

K, I have rambled enough for one night. Remember we love you!
    Take Care of YOU!

    love ya!

I found a couple links for anyone that wants to look. If they aren’t active links, just cut and past into your address bar of your web server.

Lucian: Wow, you’ve gotten a lot of responses so far. You’re more popular than me! Anyway, Cuz Sher your comment was approved. And Lucian, if any Peace Croppers need a friendly place to blog about their experience, send them our way. Sorry I didn’t catch up with you while you were in DC, I was checking out some Frank Lloyd Wright houses out. But, enjoy your stay and remember to check the comments on on your posts (as well as your normally blogging).

Lucian, I finally figured out this blog thing (with Todd’s help). I’ve read and heard what is going on with you and all I can think about is how proud I am of you. I’ve caught myself telling people I barely know about what you are up to. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you. For now I’ll just continue to think about you and pray for you. I Love You, Paul
