Preparing to swear in

We are all enjoying our final days in Carazo before we go off to Managua.  I have officially cut my beard off so I am just with the mustache.  Before any of you doubting thomases naysay I will tell you that if it isnt guapo in the states, it sure as hell is guapo here!  Besides, all the guys in sector medio ambient will be rocking the mustaches so be ready for the photos as they come.  I tried to do a photo upload tonight but the odds were stacked against me and everthing went to shit.  Sorry.

So I made dinner for my family last night and being that it was my first and only meal I was going to make for them I came out with guns blasting.  I bought some broccoli in the deparmental capital as well as some olive oil and set out to make pasta and broccoli.  Aside from having slightly overcooked pasta and no parmesan cheese, I thought it turned out well.  Culturally, I didnt really take my familiy´s needs into consideration because:

1. They had never seen broccolli before.

2. I didnt salt the shit out of it.

What blew my mind was that they were actually rubbing the broccolli down with salt directly out the container!  I mean, sea salt!  I wasn´t offended (if one of my friends had done that in the states I would have freaked), I thought it was hilarious.  My host-mom choked it down to be nice.  One learns…..

Things will get better, I swear!!!!!

    Lucian,
I’m sorry you couldn’t get the pictures up. I was so looking forward to them. Oh well, next time.
Anyway, I’m anxious to see you with the mustache. I’m sure you look handsome. I will be thinking of you on Friday when you are sworn in and become an official volunteer. You have accomplished a great deal, no doubt. Know that we are very proud of you and love you so very much.

    Hey Kido!

SEE I knew the adults from my childhood were WRONG – Everyone does NOT like broccolli !

Just remember, there will be a lady in you life that will just love to have little ole you cook for her.

Happy to see ya on the blog, bummer about the pics. Gives us something to look forward to when it does happen.

I’m at the office, using dad’s computer. He’s out enjoying the last of the warm weather. Soon I know I would love to have you bottle up some of that heat and send it to Lex Vegas. ha!

Dad and mom are doing well, so is Maggie. She spent the last weekend in H’burg. Said she had a great time. We like that she has new stories to tell.

k, love to ya from all of us here!

    gotta get back to work.

    love ya!

    Ciao Luciano,

Forget about the broccoli, salted or not. But your pasta was not “al dente”….?! Come on, how do you expect Nicaraguans to start appreciating Italian cuisine?
All kidding apart, we are all very happy to hear you are doing well and will offivially join the ranks of the PCVs on Friday. I’m sure you’re looking forward to going to your post soon.

BTW, two weeks ago there was a lunch time seminar at FAO about “Cross-Border Volunteerism: Partnerships That Grow”. The event was chaired by Mr Gaddi Vasquez, United States Ambassador to the UN Agencies in Rome, who is the former Peace Corps Director. The panel members included representatives from Argentina and Guatemala. You may also want to have a look at the recently launched Web page on Cooperation between the USPC and FAO (see: http://www.fao.org/peacecorps).

    Saludos y buena suerte!

The other day i tweaked my chicken parmesan….it was delicious and the girl i cooked it for thought so too. This weekend i am attempting meat balls from scratch. Now i know they wont compare to the ones your mom makes but, ive been comparing some recepies (sp) and i think ive come up with a nice way of making them myself. Got this massage yesterday since i pulled my rhomboidius m. on monday…MAN it felt great…! anyways one more thing before i let you go… i heard on the news this morning that Apple is cutting a deal or has cut a deal with some airline companies to build the first AI airplane……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..HAHA jk jk but they did cut a deal with some airlines to have ports and jacks to hook up your IPOD, charge it during flight and be able to watch the video on the lil screens that they now have in the seats. SOny just released their ZUNE…which is trying to be like the ipod…the only thing cool about it is that you can download music on to it via wireless but other than that…pshhhhhhhhhhh And i caught a glimpse at the new PS3….i gotta admit its pretty sweet anyways brosef im gonna make like a tree and get the F outta here.
