Can we stop with the generic religion bashing? If you want to bring up certain issues, events and so on, related to religion go ahead. But just bringing up broad blanket statements about how some people think religion sucks is getting really old here.
Please in the future bring up quotes from people that had the guts to actually call out the religions they have issue with.

“Please in the future bring up quotes from people that had the guts to actually call out the religions they have issue with.”

This is what Hitchens did all his life. Thus the famous Hitch slaps where he embarrassed religious leaders and made them look like the ignorant fools they where.

The free ride religion has been enjoying is over. This is the time of knowledge and enlightenment. Deal with it.

Oh I’m sorry I must have missed that free ride you were talking about between the beatings my grandparents got for attempting to hang on to their beliefs, or those who were forced to have there ceremonies at night because if they had them during the day they would be found out and forced to away by police. So forgive me but I have not been enjoying this free ride you speech of.
Though I take it you were not talking about my religion and thats the problem that I take issue with.
Chances are I have equal issue with these religious groups but that is not stated here or in any of these broad anti religious quotes. It wouldn’t be that hard to give these quotes context so people can better know what they mean as these statements do little to enlighten on their own.

Those of you who are Christians (the major religion of the west) should reply to this with a resounding “Yes! We reject irrationality, racism, intolerance, etc.” This do by living your lives as Christ would before humanity. Hitchens’ criticisms then drop to the floor with a whimper.

          • Michelle says:

Why base our lives on a religion (any religion) we know to be false? Why not base our lives on what is wrong and wrong and moral?

        • Rastifan says:

The inquisition, the dark ages, the crusades and other countless atrocities done in the name of religion.

Events that should have disqualified religion from ever entering the moral arena.

    • Michelle says:

Hitch did call out religions –all of them. “Religion is “violent, irrational, intolerant, allied to racism, tribalism, and bigotry, invested in ignorance and hostile to free inquiry, contemptuous of women and coercive toward children” and sectarian, and that accordingly it “ought to have a great deal on its conscience.”

He backed it up in numerous books, in his debates, and in his articles. He never backed down from this at all. He was an anti-theist, and always had the guts to actually call out ALL religions he had issues with.

Please, in the future, know what you are talking about before making such a comment that can, most easily, be proved wrong.
