More likely laughing at the socialist and communist policies that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union which was a direct result of American capitalism and policies like trickledown economics.
Good to see you’re a product of the American education system, Rod. I’m sure that trickle down economics made you rich beyond your wildest dreams while simultaneously destroying the commies that were going to piss in your cheerios. Clown.
Mister Walker, I’m from Ukraine. First of all, living here, I tend to believe that, unfortunatelly, the reasons why the USSR fell apart are very distorted as seen from across the ocean. No offence meant, but Kris has a point. Being educated and living in acapitalist/corporate-ruled society, people often misinterpret the words “socialism”. It is not offensive, as many average Americans might think. I presume, sir Merriam Webster will explain the term better than me. So go have a look.
Secondly, dont be maximalist in your views. A country may have a free market, deregulated industries etc, however still caring for its people – through benefits and indirect support – which marks it as being socialist. Scandinavian countries are a vivid example.
The thing is that America is still being intimidated by the word “socialism”, just like the post-Soviet countries are being intimidated by the word “capitalism”. Neither of us is right in our fear of the words.
Both of them may be implemented in a society.
Today is 2011, not 1969.
HEY , Rob you must have drank the Republican cool aid. The Soviet Union fell because of the systematic corruption of the party and the government. When you aid on the weight of a foreign war that they could not pay for in the 1980’s. Does that not remind you of the U.S. current situation ?
Corruption and foreign conflict were nothing new to the Soviet Union in the late 80’s. Rather it was the economic explosion of the USA and the proposed defense projects such as SDI that forced the communists to bloat their defense budget to almost 30% of their GDP. That combined with the systematic failure of other communist satellite states in relation to their wealthy (capitalist) western neighbors and the hard line stance of Reagan forced Gorbachev to throw in the proverbial towel resulting in the USSR asking for arms reduction talks and losing control of many of their quasi-states.
Oh and if you’re so pissy about “trickle down economics” why don’t you start your own business or market your own product and create your own money. After all wealth isn’t finite. But hey you could always call up the owner of the company that employs you and let him know how ungrateful you are and how you deserve much better pay and benefits. Tell him its because you are entitled to his money, after all you tried didn’t you – that deserves something right? In fact tell him that its unfair that he is successful, and that he needs to pay his “fair share” to you and others like you.
