Elizabeth Warren On The Public Good, Capitalism, & The Social Contract

Elizabeth Warren Quote On The Social Contract And The Public Good

Full text below:

There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody.

You built a factory out there—good for you! But I want to be clear.

You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for.

You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate.

You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for.

You didn’t have to worry that maurauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did.

Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea—God bless. Keep a big hunk of it.

But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.

All hail Marx and Lenin. They have succeeded where others have failed. The church and communities used to provide for those who needed help. When did Washington get the constitiutional authority to tell someone in Wyoming or Delaware they must pay the freight for the lazy in Illinois or New York? To Ms. Warren those who work hard must pay for those who won’t. Not saying the one’s who can’t do for themselves be abandoned. But now our government dictates to me the miscreants of society must be cared for. Not in my lifetime. Progressive my ass! Misgiuded possibly, Retrograde at best. Keep the change, the socialists, and the crooked politicians, regardless of party affiliation. Re-elect No One!

So… anyone whose business succeeds somehow owes society a debt? Good to know…
