I think the issue is that while late 80'-early 90's music highlighted violent aspects of black poverty in America, it didn't do it in such a way that it completely glorified street violence. It was more an 'insight' then an 'aspiration' into inner city lifestyles.

Of course. On the subject of rap music - it has always been poetry, now in motion set to music; just today there are more profanity and seemingly violent messages. As for African-American racism and discrimination, this remains a current concern. Notably; not until this year has there now been the first Black referee at the Super Bowl. Regrettably; Humanity as a whole still has not achieved a civilized mannerism as racism, domestic violence, war, etc. persists in the World. Hopefully one day the realization that everybody bleeds the same color blood will bring a Unity of Peace we all can be proud to rap about.

Thanks for mentioning my link!
