I take a week off to travel and of course, Don Imus gets busy throwing slander out with me having no immediate access to the land of BLOGS. Is there a race between Anne Nicole Smith and Don Imus for least newsworthy ‘news’? I would love to learn more about say our failing occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan or the life & death of Kurt Vonnegut. But no, paternal tests and nappy haired hos is what you, loyal American subject, demand.

So let’s address the issues:

First, it seems pretty cut and dry. Don Imus is and always has been a bigot, one way or another. I wouldn’t accuse him of being an idiot, because he knows exactly what he’s doing and saying — ie. this is calculated. On a simple level, this guy should have been off the radio for a while — he’s fairly malicious with his statements and his personal development is pretty much around nil after being asked to apologize over and over for his statements.

But the reaction to this has been out of proportion. Frankly, I hear worse things on the local hiphop stations everyday. And I hate to pull out that card because I sound stiff and WHITE, but its the truth: misogyny is pervasive in America especially with the lower class. While I would never condone Imus statement, can we not examine the contradictions and hypocrisy of say, Tupac, who wrote songs like Dear Momma and Keep Your Head Up that examined the difficulty of being a female in a lower-class, urban environment, while he also was convicted of battery against a female and sodomy? That is to say, we can allow discourse on one level because it comes from blacks but not on another level because it comes from whites? Frankly, I resent the mainstream media being the middleman for what goes and leaves for reasonable discourse.

Further, I really dislike Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, et al. It saddens me (honestly) to think of the legacy of Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement completely sullied and hijacked by a bunch of self-serving low-lives who are too busy taking advantage of race as an issue and facilitating divisiveness to actually work against bigotry.
