I wrote a letter to Salon after reading an article about Morocco’s tempered reaction to the cartoon controversy. Their reaction has been typical of predominately Islamic countries: they feel the cartoons were irresponsible and disrespectful, but does not justify reprehensibly violent behavior.

My basic premise, and I’m working on a substantial entry that I will entitle ‘Rationalizing the Middle East’ to work on this point as well, that the situation is perpetuated by advantageous people on both sides of the ‘cultural divide’ between the West and Islam. Though cultural differences may exist, they are issues that could be answered and resolved by a two hour special starring Dave Chapelle, Jeff Foxxworthy, and Lewis Farrakhan.
