Lorena Bobbit

In 2000, Vitter was included in a Newhouse News Service story about the strain of congressional careers on families. His wife, Wendy, was asked by the Newhouse reporter: If her husband were as unfaithful as Livingston or former President Bill Clinton, would she be as forgiving as Hillary Rodham Clinton?

“I’m a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary,” Wendy Vitter told Newhouse News. “If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me.”

All from a guy who has spent his political career trying to make an amendment that outlaws gay marriage. Classy and tasty. And even tastier and classier:

“Let’s give Vitter credit for having relations with people who aren’t minors and who are of the more respectable gender for such matters” – Dean Barnett on Hugh Hewitt’s blog

The former American secretary of state Colin Powell has revealed that he spent 2 and a half hours vainly trying to persuade President George W Bush not to invade Iraq and believes today’s conflict cannot be resolved by US forces.

“I tried to avoid this war,” Powell said at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado. “I took him through the consequences of going into an Arab country and becoming the occupiers.”

From Mr. Sullivan but a better read on Powell by James Bennet.

“My last few years in the middle school were spent largely chasing kids out of the bathroom of the opposite sex. Blowjobs were all the rage. It was all they could talk about. They even drew pictures and diagrams, of kids ‘doing it,’ or ‘how to do it’ for the uninitiated.”

On July 2, 2003, George W. Bush was asked about the rising casualty rates in Iraq. His response:

anybody who wants to harm American troops will be found and brought to justice. There are some who feel like that if they attack us that we may decide to leave prematurely. They don’t understand what they’re talking about, if that’s the case.

Let me finish. There are some who feel like — that the conditions are such that they can attack us there. My answer is, bring them on.

Yee fucking haw.

Dicky Lugar To The Rescue

Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN) on Iraq:

“In my judgment, the costs and risks of continuing down the current path outweigh the potential benefits that might be achieved. Persisting indefinitely with the surge strategy will delay policy adjustments that have a better chance of protecting our vital interests over the long term.”
