Jon Stewart On The Photo Of Bin Laden’s Body

Jon Stewart On The Photo Of Bin Laden's Body

Maybe we should always show pictures. Bin Laden, pictures of our wounded service people, pictures of maimed innocent civilians… We can only make decisions about war if we see what war actually is.

See the video from this Daily Show segment here: Jon Stewart On OBL And The Reality Of War.

  1. So true, war is not like call of duty.

  2. cupcake eater says:

the bodies dont disappear in call of duty, leaving behind a gold coin. get your s*** right mang

    • lyss says:

It says nothng about COD, now does it.

    • b says:

If you weren’t oh so ignorant you would be able to understand what he was talking about he was saying that as a metaphor to get his point across on war and what seeing pictures such as those would do. I’m thirteen and i understood it better than you.

      • jjj says:

Honey, don’t take it so seriously. I am fairly certain that OP was not being serious. Have a sense of humor.

    • Eryn says:

      your an idiot.

Obviously, this is about a video game.

      Moron.

    • Anonymous says:

      your a fucking tard

  3. Matt says:

or maybe we should show them because of all the gov’t lies and false flag ops over the years

  4. b says:

    “cupcake eater”
If you weren’t oh so ignorant you would be able to understand what he was talking about, he was saying that as a metaphor to get his point across on war and what seeing pictures, such as those, would do. I’m thirteen and i understood it better than you.

    • Calling you “honey” and dismissing your comment is rather negative. As someone of age 13, you may be more clear about the truth than a jaded, overly sedate adult. Of course, many adults also are inspired to see and speak the truth and make the world better. I hope you never lose the awareness and sense of indignation with stupid and distracting humor as well as wrongdoing, that you have. As long as it is tempered with some tolerance, because there will always be some ignorance out there.

  5. Anonymous says:

This is very true! Thank god someone feels this way also. How are we supposed to decide or vote on things happening in the world, in our very own country, when we ourselves are only notified by word of mouth rather than pictures which provide us with the truth we deserve?!?!

    • jpede says:

the truth you deserve? you’re a moron and an asshole. if you want to know whats going on in war then join the fucking army. asshat.

  6. Thinking says:

What Jon is saying is that the media caused America to “lose” the war in Vietnam, can’t they do it again with the war on terror ?

    • You're Not Thinking At All says:

Jon isn’t saying that. He’s just talking about the humanity behind everything and how everyone is desensitized to the true horrors of war. He in no way, shape, or form mentions Vietnam. Ever. He said nothing about winning or losing the war on terror either. Your comment is so wrong and I have no idea where it could have possibly come from that I took the time to sign up for this website with this specific name to let you know how sad the question you put forth truly is.

  7. Thinking says:

What Jon forgets is that the media is doing it’s job covering up for the terrorists, within the last 2 days there have been three incidents of “terrorists” storming the cockpits of airplanes over American skies shouting allah akbar! The media has kept very quiet about that, after all you only need to know what Jon and the media want you to know.

    • Anonymous says:

yeah.. they really should show more light on more stuff. But just a correction, saying allahu akbar doesn’t mean it’s a terrorist attack. allahu akbar means god is great. even christian arabs say that. just because a few people miss use the word doesn’t mean when someone says them, its bad. like when something bad happens and people say ‘jesus christ’ ..

  8. Stacey says:

    Absolutely impressive argument!
    War is ugly.
    Death is ugly.
We need to be reminded of just how ugly it is.

    • Christine says:

I agree. All he’s saying, IMHO, is that if we really showed what was going on over there, instead of calling our troops “losses” and their dead “insurgents”, maybe it would seem more real, and more people would try to get our government to stop this war…..Maybe I’m naive…..but it’s all about money anyway…..

  9. chazz says:

no one but soldiers know what war is like

  10. j says:

    absolutely

  11. Jo says:

    complete and utter truth.

  12. 21st Century says:

….can you leave video games out of it? Jeez, like it’s their fault that people are to stupid to separate reality from fantasy. A lot of it’s on education not being up to par actually.

    • Education is not able to do the whole job with children; perhaps education is still the strongest thing currently offered to many children, since society as a whole portrays very confused values, and parents are either too busy or too unaware to overcome the massive bad messages that their children are exposed to via television, video games, and much of popular music.

In that sense, education, while not so strong, is still often the best thing.

  13. Brian says:

One more life (term) for Obama?

  14. swan says:

What really bothers me is the way some people reacted towards this quote. Stewart is a comedian but his words hold truth. Our nation is infested with video gamers who have been desensitized by media, games, books, movies, etc. People know that wars are going on but don’t really understand what is actually happening. If one was thrown into a war zone, given gun, and ordered to shot at the “enemy”, how many people would be able to do it while watching their comrades dropping down dead? War has to end now, because it is not what people on the home front believe it to be. It ruins families, soldiers, and the environment. We need to focus on helping one another rather than killing because it is not natural nor beneficial. It just shows that people are too stubborn to settle conflicts humanely and honestly, on both sides.

    • Elliott says:

I’m a video gamer and I know that pixelated soldiers leave no orphans and real ones do, thank you very much. Just because I enjoy violent games does not make me a violent person. Quite the opposite, really.

  15. tegan says:

this is so refreshing. i love jon stewart. it is so sad to feel like he is the only news resource i can trust…

  16. Violet says:

What most people don’t understand is that war is not started by the citizens it is declared by politicians to feed their desire for control and power. They don’t really care that they use the citizen to fight the war. They will bask in the glory of a win and deny their involvement at a loss. The masses are simply puppets of the politicians they elect. Wake up folks we are all being used in some way or another by everyone we know and don’t know.

  17. Ambrose says:

He’s obviously right but i can’t see anything changing – the people who run things benefit from hiding reality and that’s all there is to it.

  18. Joan Brandmeier says:

    Stunningly accurate.

  19. alriiight says:

    amen

  20. Anonymous says:

the jew would be talking about shiny gold coins

  21. bored says:

well. metaphorically speaking. dead bodies do “drop shiny gold coins” bcuz the soldier is being paid to go to war. so in a sense going to war and killing the enemy will get you money, or shiny gold coins. just sayin.

  22. sotrue says:

This is so true. The commercials for video games are so realistic to see yet so far from reality. We need to see what war really is……maimed men and women who will forever be treated as handicap instead of heros, childen and mothers screaming until they vomit as they watch their families, disappear in a ball of flames. War is disgusting and horrifying. And we now purchase video games for our young children to play, that depicts war as an exciting event , where we can use weapons to kill, maime, destroy. Then turn off an go have some lunch. Going to war is agreeing to risk your brother, mother, father, sister, cousin, friend, ‘s life. If they are lucky. There are plenty of men and women who return home, scarred, and mentally destroyed over the horrifying sights they have seen. Stop playing these games, because if you only knew what is was like to stand alone, in a strange country, where you are the target, where you will watch the man beside you, be obliterated into a mass of brains, blood, skin and tissue, if you could only feel the pain of the child you watch burn alive. You would never, NEVER, play “war” for the fun of it. War is to be feared and avoided, and used only as a last defence. To turn it into a game, is to spit on the graves of those who have given their lives, to look at those who have changed since serving, who can no longer hold their wives, or sleep a nites sleep.and say “its just a game” Its ignorant and disgusting. But I guess if you already play video games like that, and enjoy them. You probably wont acknowledge what I have to say, as you obviously are completly ignorant to reality. Grow up and gain some respect!

    • jpede says:

you are a moron. as a sergeant in the united states army, i can tell you that war can be very exciting. most of my 15 months in baghdad was spent driving around in a truck for hours finding nothing or sitting in a truck for hours waiting for nothing, but when it was time to kill and maim, it was a good fucking time. i had no problem holding my wife at night and i sleep fine. it wasn’t always the case, but like every other wound it heals. stop spouting off about shit you don’t know about and go experience it.

  23. Sach says:

    Nicely said.No one wins in a war…..

  24. Holy Crap says:

Holy crap, sotrue, that was condescending.
And you missed Stewart’s point. He is not advocating against violent video games. He is advocating against widespread ignorance in American society, specifically in the media.
Look back at the quote. Stewart is not arguing that video games are desensitizing us. In fact, he is arguing the exact opposite: that the graphic images ought to be released. The video game simile demonstrates the effect of ignorance, not the effect of video games.
I don’t want to be ignorant, and I do acknowledge what you have to say, for example, that video games do not portray war accurately or that video games desensitize violence. I’m 100% on board with what you have to say. I just think you missed Stewart’s point and instead got wrapped up in my-perception-of-war-is-better-than-yours, anti video game diatribe.

I AGREE! AND….if we showed pictures of aborted babies MAYBE abortion will finally be deemed the ILLEGAL MURDER that it is!

    • Anonymous says:

the above comment was regarding Jon Stewarts posting………….

    • Katie says:

It is not illegal because its not murder. A clump of cells that are leaching off of the host (ie, the “mother”) is nothing more than that. If the mother decides to keep it, it is completely within her control. Maybe if people stopped using fear mongering and religious right, we might have more people in this world with wanted children.
Pro-life people care about the embryo/fetus up until its born. After that, they don’t care about the quality of life it is given by the parent/s. I don’t see people who protest the abortion clinics offering to watch the children as their mothers go to their second jobs to support the other two children they had. I don’t see them fostering/adopting the unwanted or mistreated children that come from broken families.
What I do see is people protesting abortion clinics, and then turning right around and preventing people from getting welfare that they need in order to get food on the table for their children. Because those people using welfare are nothing more than “leeches of the system.”
If you feel abortion is wrong, then don’t get one. But you have no right to tell any woman what to do with her body. I personally considered an abortion. But I didn’t get one because I personally felt like I was in a position to raise this child. Not everyone has that option.

      • Angela says:

A baby who is breastfed is a lump of cells technically too then and it “leaches” off it’s mother. Seriously, do not devalue life. Even if it is one cell or a trillion, if it has it’s own unique DNA it is a new human being, period. A fetus, a baby, child, adult or senior citizen all started out as a zygote and from there just grew. If you want to kill your offspring that is your choice technically, but do not treat an unborn child as nothing more than a parasite. I guess that is what you must due to help you rationalize destroying your own unborn offspring.
Also, I work two jobs to support my children because a good mother puts her children first, not her body (or the fact her child isn’t “perfect”). However, I am a good mother, I wish the same could be said all women capable of reproducing.
