CNN Asks Are The Smurfs Fascists?

Oh CNN, just when I think you can’t sink any lower… you go and do something completely embarrassing like this. Notice the image above. Yes, the first article in the World news section of the front page of CNN is “Are the Smurfs crypto-fascists?” And yes, this isn’t the Onion and the article is very real:

Let’s have a quick recap of why this is absurd, embarrassing, and a stinging indictment of CNN’s continued ineptitude:

1) What the fuck do the Smurfs have to do with World News? And why would anyone think a story about them potentially being fascists (WTF) should be green-lighted for the front page of CNN?

2) In the order of world events, how is this #1? Hey, 70+ people died revolting against the government in Syria today and the US government is a few days away from defaulting… but the Smurfs! The fucking Smurfs.

3) The quality of the article is atrocious.

All in all CNN, you’ve reminded me yet again why I never take you seriously and why I never should have in the first place.

    I’m not defending the absurdity of the article being on the front page of CNN but you are a little off on your reasoning. The article was originally published in a french paper which is why it is in world news. The reason the article is #1 is probably due to a number of people posting it as ridiculous, giving it more of a trend (I am unsure if CNN orders its articles in this way). The quality of the article is subpar due to the challenge of translation, which tends to diminish meaning and quality. Also, everyone knows the Smurfs are fascists, that is why I am a fan.
